Context

MyEnterprise is a B2B digital solutions platform that provides comprehensive services to corporate clients and employees. Its target audience includes businesses looking for efficient digital communication tools, data management solutions, and enhanced employee productivity platforms. By offering integrated digital services, MyEnterprise helps companies streamline operations and improve overall efficiency through its suite of enterprise-level products
MyEnterprise designed various visual designs across all brand touchpoints, and illustrations were one of the key elements used to make the design stand out and engage users effectively. However, all illustrations were created from scratch for each campaign or platform. This approach was time-consuming and made the overall design process inefficient

Challenge

Inconsistent Visuals
Designing illustrations individually for each touchpoint led to inconsistencies in style and brand representation, reducing visual coherence
Time-Consuming Process
The need to design each illustration from scratch slowed down the design process, delaying campaign launches and platform updates
Fragmented Brand Identity
Without a unified visual style, MyEnterprise’s brand identity became inconsistent, reducing its effectiveness in engaging users and building recognition

How Might We

How might we develop a unified visual style that ensures consistency across all brand touchpoints while reducing the time required to create illustrations?

Research

To build an effective illustration system, research was conducted and planned to gather insights and identify best practices. This phase involved analyzing the current state, gathering stakeholder feedback, and researching similar brand standards to ensure a scalable and efficient solution

Visual Audit:
Conducted an audit of MyEnterprise’s brand to identify the style, color palette, and other visual elements

Stakeholder Interviews:
Gathered feedback from project managers and business users to identify requirements when creating illustrations.

Benchmarking Analysis:
Conducted a benchmark study of similar brands to learn how other companies maintain their illustration systems.

Benchmark Analysis

Three standout illustration systems were used as benchmarks: Gojektopia by Gojek Design, NetGuru Smart Illustration System and Blush.design. Each of these systems offered insights into different aspects of illustration system design.

  • NetGuru Smart Illustration System: Provided insights into how to create a well-structured and scalable illustration system.
  • Gojektopia by Gojek Design: Demonstrated the importance of storytelling through illustrations, effectively combining visuals with brand narratives.
  • Blush.design: Highlighted the value of modular components and how to structure illustrations for flexibility and adaptability.

Reseach Key Findings

01
Consistency & Alignment
A need for a unified and consistent style across all brand touchpoints to strengthen the brand’s identity. Ensuring that illustrations reflect the brand’s tone and values will help maintain a cohesive visual experience across platforms
02
Efficiency in Workflow
The importance of creating reusable components and modular illustrations. This approach would allow for a faster, more efficient illustration process, reducing the time spent on design while meeting target deadlines
03
Target Audience Focus
The current illustrations didn’t always resonate with MyEnterprise’s target audience. By aligning the brand’s visual elements with audience preferences, illustrations can be more engaging and relevant to users

Design Process

Define the Style

The first step in developing the illustration system was to define the visual style based on MyEnterprise’s brand values, mission, and vision. Every illustration was crafted to ensure alignment with the established brand identity while introducing a new visual language.

  • The color palette is in line with MyTelkomsel’s branding, creating a cohesive and recognizable presence across all platforms.
  • For the characters, we represent the Account Manager as the face of MyEnterprise, company president and the PIC Corporate as the customer and user. This decision highlights the relationship between companies, employees, and our digital solution service products, emphasizing how we connect these entities.
  • The illustration style is crafted to project a professional, business-forward image, amplifying the practical benefits of our services and enhancing the brand’s authoritative presence.

Moodboard

To guide the visual direction, we developed a moodboard that captured the intended style, color palette, and overall feel for the illustrations. The moodboard featured examples of existing illustrations, textures, and color schemes that reflected the brand’s values and tone. This moodboard served as a visual reference throughout the project to ensure consistency and alignment with the brand.

Sketching

After defining the illustration style, the next step was to translate the concepts into sketches. This phase focused on visualizing how each illustration would look while ensuring that they could be easily adapted and replicated across various touchpoints. The sketches served as the foundation for future components and provided a visual reference

Creating Components

Once the sketches were finalized, each illustration was broken down into reusable components. This step allowed us to create an adaptable and scalable system. Each element, such as characters, poses, and expressions, was designed as a reusable component to ensure flexibility

Final Design

MyEnterprise Illustration System

To build the MyEnterprise Illustration System, Figma was used due to its powerful component capabilities and easy mix-and-match functionality, allowing for the efficient creation of reusable illustration elements. Additionally, Figma’s collaboration features made it possible to work seamlessly with team members, enabling quick feedback and ensuring alignment throughout the design process.

Spot Illustration

Spot illustrations are small visuals that add warmth and make interfaces more engaging. Built with Figma components, these flexible illustrations show relatable business scenes across MyEnterprise platforms

Outcomes

  • Enhanced Brand Consistency: The illustration system established a unified visual language, ensuring all brand touchpoints—from email campaigns to website banners—consistently reflect MyEnterprise’s identity
  • Increased Efficiency: By creating reusable and modular illustration components, the design process became 50% faster, allowing the team to meet deadlines more effectively and focus on higher-priority tasks
  • Improved User Engagement: With illustrations aligned to the target audience, MyEnterprise achieved a more relatable and engaging experience for users, strengthening brand resonance across digital platforms.

Takeways

The current illustration system has limitations in pose flexibility, requiring many poses to be created from scratch and lacking customization options. To improve this, poses can be broken down into smaller components, such as separate body, left hand, and right hand elements, allowing for greater adaptability.

I have implemented this approach in a project named Worktive—🔗see it on Figma Community. This system enables customizable character poses by using modular components, streamlining the creation process and providing more flexibility for future projects.
